Niles is where the kitchen used to be.  His circle saw is straddling the old kitchen and bedroom wall



The kitchen, a bedroom, the living room and dining room have been ripped out.  The ceiling in the front half of the cabin is gone and the roof has been insulated and left as a vaulted ceiling.  There are now two sets of sliding glass doors facing the lake.  By May, we hope to see a deck wrapped around the front.  As of January 2011, the deconstruction is done, the insulation is finished, the sliding glass doors and another large window on the south side are in, the plumbing is done and a new water heater is in place.  We still need to do a bunch of work!  The kitchen appliances, new lights, new ceiling fan, and a gas fireplace will get installed and part of the wood floor will be rebuilt.  Gallons of paint and some of the old tongue and groove woodwork will go up, a new kitchen island and arranging furniture (some old, some new) are still on the to-do list.  Thank you very much to Niles and his son Mathew for doing the lions share of this work. Gordon will be our finishing carpenter and has gotten help from our son Rhory. Gordon will continue to get more ideas from his wife, Jennifer, before all is said and done. We can't wait to show off our final results!  If possible, we will be happy to show off the finished product to you this summer. Or, call us and rent it!

The new Cabin 1 will have two bedrooms with a double and single bed in one room, a double and a bunk bed in the second room and a single, day bed off of the living room for a total of six beds. Already it is more light and airy and the general living area is open and inviting.  After a day of walleye, northern or bass fishing or a day of sight seeing, swimming and rock climbing in Voyageurs National Park  - a good evening game of cards will be very possible in this new cabin layout.
